Container transport

As global logistics is based on containers, the major ports have adapted to this new mode of transport by creating dedicated terminals for loading and unloading containers, and transferring them onto trains or trucks. Some international ports have become so-called hubs, that is to say, areas of concentration of containers on routes at national or international scale. Containers are moved in large ports providing regular services between the various major ports on different continents, especially in South-East Asia, Europe and North America. Containers are brought or picked up from these hubs to other smaller terminals.
